Wilmington, OH – A winter storm is expected to sweep through southwest Ohio and surrounding regions starting Sunday, bringing heavy snow, ice, and hazardous travel conditions. Forecasts indicate snowfall totals could reach up to 9 inches, with areas along major highways like I-71 particularly affected.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Winter Storm Warning will take effect Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and last through midnight Monday. Snow is expected to begin in the early afternoon Sunday, mixing with freezing rain by evening. Road conditions will rapidly deteriorate, with accumulations of 5–9 inches of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice possible. Monday morning and evening commutes are likely to face significant delays and disruptions.

Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel during the storm. For those who must be on the road, preparedness is key. Officials recommend keeping a flashlight, food, water, and blankets in vehicles in case of emergencies. Motorists can access live road condition updates via OHGO.com in Ohio, 511IN.org in Indiana, and GoKY.ky.gov in Kentucky.

Beyond Monday, temperatures are expected to remain cold, with lows dipping to the single digits through midweek. Another system could bring additional snow or icy conditions later in the week.
