Wilmington, OH – A significant winter storm is set to blanket parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky with heavy snow and ice from Sunday into Monday night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, with hazardous conditions expected to severely affect travel.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin Sunday afternoon, intensifying overnight into Monday. Wilmington and surrounding areas could see up to 10 inches of snow and sleet accumulation, with ice forming in some locations. Wind gusts as high as 30 mph are expected, creating blowing snow and reducing visibility. Monday’s morning and evening commutes may be particularly treacherous.
Residents are urged to limit non-essential travel and take precautions. Emergency officials recommend keeping a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of emergencies. Travelers on I-71 and other major roadways should monitor updates on OHGO for current road conditions.
Temperatures will drop significantly following the storm, with lows in the single digits expected by Tuesday night. Power outages are possible in areas experiencing heavy ice accumulation.
The winter storm will taper off late Monday night, but roads could remain icy into Tuesday. Residents should clear sidewalks and driveways promptly to avoid refreezing.
