Cleveland, OH – Heavy lake-effect snow continues to blanket Northeast Ohio, causing hazardous travel conditions across the region, especially near I-90. Snow bands are producing 1 to 3 inches per hour in some areas, with total accumulations expected to reach up to 28 inches in localized snowbelt zones by Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, snow squalls are creating near white-out conditions, with visibility dropping to a quarter-mile or less in affected areas. Travel along I-90 and other snowbelt roadways remains dangerous, with drivers urged to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Wind gusts up to 33 mph are worsening visibility and increasing the risk of drifting snow.
The lake-effect snow is forecast to ease slightly by Saturday morning, providing a brief break before another round of snow showers is expected Sunday and Monday. Daytime highs over the weekend will hover around the mid-30s, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s, making untreated roads and sidewalks prone to refreezing.
Residents should take precautions by staying updated with weather alerts and preparing emergency kits for travel or power outages. Key impacted areas include Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, and Lake counties, where snowfall totals will be highest. Those planning holiday shopping or outdoor activities this weekend should expect delays and plan alternate routes if traveling.
Stay tuned for updates as conditions develop and prepare for another potential snowstorm early next week.
