Cleveland, OH – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Ashtabula Inland, Ashtabula Lakeshore, and Lake Counties as heavy lake-effect snow blankets the area.
The National Weather Service reported snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour Tuesday afternoon, with total accumulations reaching 6 inches by Wednesday at 4 p.m. Winds are expected to gust up to 35 mph, reducing visibility and creating hazardous road conditions.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, slippery roads are likely, and commuters should prepare for delays during both morning and evening rush hours on Tuesday. Motorists are urged to slow down, exercise caution, and consider delaying unnecessary travel.
The heaviest snow is expected Tuesday evening, potentially impacting travel on Interstate 90 and local roadways. Snowfall will taper off by Wednesday afternoon but may leave lingering slick conditions, especially in northern areas.
Geauga and Crawford counties are also under winter weather advisories, with similar snowfall rates and totals expected. In Pennsylvania’s Crawford County, up to 7 inches of snow may fall by Wednesday evening.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest weather updates and road conditions via state transportation websites. Emergency services advise having winter survival kits in vehicles and avoiding non-essential travel.
This weather event marks the season’s first major lake-effect snowstorm, and its intensity serves as a reminder for communities to stay prepared for winter hazards.
