Columbus, Ohio – Damaging winds and large hail could slam parts of southern and central Ohio late Tuesday, with storms expected to intensify across cities like Chillicothe, Portsmouth, and Marysville by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a slight risk for severe thunderstorms is in effect for much of Ohio through Tuesday night. The primary threats include wind gusts up to 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and the possibility of an isolated tornado. The most likely time for storm development ranges from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., moving west to east across the state.

Storms are forecast to begin in the early afternoon near Cincinnati and Dayton, spreading into Columbus, Newark, and Chillicothe by late afternoon. Southeastern cities like Portsmouth and Logan could see the strongest storms after 5 p.m. Commuters should expect delays on I-71 and U.S. 35, and power outages are possible in areas experiencing strong wind gusts.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and identify safe shelter locations. Secure loose outdoor items and charge phones in case of power loss.

Severe weather watches remain in effect through tonight, and additional warnings may be issued as storms develop.
