Cincinnati, OH – Residents across Ohio should prepare for a weekend of severe weather, with strong storms, heavy rain, and potential flooding expected from Friday night through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, a system moving into the region will bring the risk of severe thunderstorms beginning Friday night. Some storms may become strong to severe, with damaging winds exceeding 40 mph possible. Additionally, widespread heavy rainfall on Saturday could lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of Ohio under a marginal to slight risk for excessive rainfall on Saturday, with the heaviest precipitation expected in central and southern parts of the state. Rainfall totals could reach several inches in some locations, leading to localized flooding concerns.

Strong gradient winds, even outside of thunderstorms, could make travel hazardous on Saturday. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects and remain alert for potential power outages.

Officials advise Ohioans to monitor weather updates, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and prepare emergency kits in case of severe conditions. Travelers should check road conditions before heading out, as heavy rain and wind could make driving hazardous.

The severe weather threat is expected to diminish late Saturday night, with calmer conditions moving in by Sunday.
