Ohio Weather Alert: Strong Thunderstorms Expected Across Wilmington Today Through Friday

Wilmington, OH – May 1, 2025 – Severe thunderstorms are rolling into Wilmington, Ohio, with wind gusts up to 60 mph expected to affect the region today through Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for areas around Wilmington, with a high likelihood of damaging winds and quarter-sized hail. Drivers on local roads, particularly Interstate 71, should expect hazardous conditions with the potential for falling tree limbs and debris.

According to the National Weather Service, a line of thunderstorms is moving northeast at 40 mph, packing winds strong enough to cause localized power outages. Areas along and north of Interstate 71, including Martinsville, Blanchester, and Sabina, are at high risk. Residents are urged to remain inside, especially in the afternoon and evening, when storms are forecasted to intensify.

In addition to the storms, the region will experience periods of heavy rain that could lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas. With a 60% chance of more thunderstorms through Friday night, Wilmington and surrounding communities should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. The storm system is expected to bring rainfall totals up to 1 inch in some areas.

As we move into the weekend, the threat of severe storms will subside. However, heavy rain and cooler temperatures will persist, with high chances of rain continuing through Saturday. The five-day forecast indicates highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 40s.
