Cleveland, OH – Freezing rain is set to sweep across northeast Ohio late Saturday night into Sunday morning, potentially creating dangerous travel conditions. Commuters and holiday shoppers should prepare for slick roads, particularly on highways like I-90, I-80, and I-77.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, freezing rain will likely develop after midnight as rain spreads eastward into colder areas. Accumulations of ice are forecast to be less than one-tenth of an inch but could still create hazardous conditions on untreated roads and bridges. Temperatures will remain near freezing through early Sunday before warmer air transitions precipitation into plain rain by midday.

Sunday’s forecast includes rain with a high near 42 degrees and wind gusts of up to 18 mph. Travelers should plan for delays and use caution, especially during the morning hours. By Sunday night, more rain is expected as temperatures hover in the mid-30s, with showers continuing into Monday.

The week ahead will bring milder temperatures, with highs reaching 54 degrees Monday before dipping back into the low 40s Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers remain possible through midweek, so residents should keep rain gear handy.

For those traveling overnight, check local traffic reports and consider delaying plans until conditions improve. Drive slowly and leave extra distance between vehicles to avoid accidents on slick surfaces.

Be sure to follow updates from the National Weather Service and monitor conditions closely. Freezing rain is unpredictable, so take necessary precautions.
