Charleston, WV – A winter weather advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Monday for areas of Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia, with snowfall anticipated to create slick travel conditions along I-64 and other major routes. Officials warn of up to 2 inches of snow accumulation by Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin late Saturday night, impacting travel throughout Sunday and into Monday morning. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time as icy patches are likely, especially on bridges and overpasses.
The advisory covers northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and parts of West Virginia, including Charleston, Huntington, and Point Pleasant. The most significant accumulation is expected on higher elevations and shaded roadways. Travelers heading to holiday events or shopping are advised to check conditions by calling 511 or visiting state traffic websites before heading out.
Sunday’s forecast includes temperatures in the low 30s, with snow tapering off by Sunday evening. Monday morning commuters should prepare for freezing temperatures, increasing the potential for icy roads. Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts clearer skies Tuesday through Thursday, with highs climbing into the mid-40s.
Residents should take precautions such as stocking emergency supplies in their vehicles and staying informed via the National Weather Service’s online updates.
