Columbus, Ohio – Central and southern Ohio will see near-summer heat today, with temperatures surging to 89°F in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Portsmouth before storms move in Thursday night into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, skies will remain mostly dry today, but increasing humidity and an approaching frontal boundary will trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms by late Thursday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are likely across much of the region, including Dayton, Chillicothe, and Logan, with locally heavier pockets possible.

Temperatures will peak in the upper 80s today—expect 87°F in Newark, 88°F in Logan and Chillicothe, and 86°F in Wilmington and Richmond. Storms on Friday could become strong to severe, with damaging winds and heavy downpours as primary threats. The best chance for severe activity is along and south of the U.S. 35 corridor.

Residents should avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. Keep phones charged and monitor NOAA weather alerts through Friday evening.

Scattered thunderstorms and rain chances linger into Friday night, with additional advisories possible.
