Wilmington, OH – The Ohio Valley is bracing for dangerous cold and accumulating snow that could disrupt travel plans by Friday evening. Bitterly cold wind chills will continue through Thursday, followed by 1 to 3 inches of snow as a storm system moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, high temperatures on Thursday will only reach 19°F, with wind chills plunging as low as -12°F in the morning. By Friday afternoon, snow is expected to begin and intensify into the evening, creating hazardous conditions on roads, especially along I-71 and major local routes.
Drivers should prepare for slippery surfaces and reduced visibility during the Friday evening commute. Untreated roads and sidewalks will be especially icy as temperatures remain below freezing. Officials recommend delaying non-essential travel and ensuring vehicles are stocked with emergency supplies.
Saturday will bring some relief, with partly cloudy skies and highs near 26°F, but the cold snap will persist into early next week. Another system may bring additional snow Sunday night into Monday, keeping conditions challenging for the Ohio Valley.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, dress in warm layers, and limit time outdoors to avoid frostbite and hypothermia risks. Stay updated on weather alerts and prepare accordingly for travel disruptions.
