Louisville, KY – Scattered thunderstorms are set to return Thursday and Friday across the lower Ohio Valley, bringing the chance for locally heavy rainfall and renewed concerns over high water levels in flood-prone areas.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, while storms will likely remain disorganized and rainfall amounts are not expected to be excessive, isolated flooding can’t be ruled out. Most of the region is forecast to receive around half an inch of rain by Saturday morning, with southern Indiana and western Kentucky potentially seeing higher amounts.

River levels along the Ohio and its tributaries—already elevated from earlier storms—will continue to slowly recede. Cities such as Evansville, Paducah, and Huntington remain under close watch, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and near small streams.

Drivers should avoid water-covered roads, especially overnight, when visibility is low. Emergency managers also recommend charging devices and reviewing flood evacuation plans, just in case.

Though widespread flooding is not anticipated, residents in vulnerable areas should stay weather-aware. Another update from the NWS is expected Friday morning as the system progresses eastward.
