Cincinnati, Ohio – Widespread rain will move into Illinois and Indiana on Wednesday and spread across the rest of the Ohio Valley by Thursday, raising concerns over rising river levels across western Ohio.

According to the Ohio River Forecast Center, 7-day precipitation totals could reach 2 to 3 inches in parts of the region. Although no major flooding is forecast at this time, renewed rises along rivers and streams—especially in western Ohio—are likely as soils remain saturated from previous storms.

Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus are among the cities that could see prolonged periods of rain, which may impact low-lying roadways and delay agricultural operations. In southern Indiana, localized ponding and slower drainage in urban areas could disrupt commutes through Thursday night.

While current river gauges show most locations remain below flood thresholds, the National Weather Service advises residents near rivers to monitor updates and avoid travel through water-covered roads. Emergency managers urge preparedness, including clearing drainage areas and having alternate travel routes in case of closures.

Rain chances persist through the weekend, with more updates expected from the National Weather Service as river conditions evolve.
