Louisville, Kentucky – Scattered storms and gusty winds are set to impact much of the Ohio Valley today, with eastern Kentucky expected to see the strongest weather through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a slow-moving area of low pressure is generating widespread rain and thunderstorms across the region. A few stronger storms, mainly in eastern Kentucky, could bring gusts over 40 mph and brief heavy downpours this afternoon and evening.
Cities like Pikeville, Ashland, and Hazard are under a marginal risk for severe weather. While not widespread, some storms could lead to localized tree damage or power outages. Breaks in the rain are possible later today, especially west of I-75, including Lexington and Bowling Green, though intermittent showers may persist into Sunday.
Temperatures will remain well below average, with highs only in the upper 50s to mid-60s across much of the state. Outdoor plans may be disrupted, and residents are advised to avoid travel during peak storm activity and secure outdoor items that could blow away.
Rain chances continue into Sunday, and additional advisories could be issued if stronger cells redevelop overnight. Stay tuned to local updates and NOAA Weather Radio for the latest alerts.
