Columbus, Ohio – A line of fast-moving storms is sweeping across eastern Ohio this evening, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 23 counties, including Summit, Stark, and Trumbull, until 9 p.m. Monday. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail are the main threats, with isolated power outages and downed trees possible.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 226 was issued at 4:05 p.m. EDT and includes counties such as Licking, Coshocton, Mahoning, and Richland. Storms are expected to intensify as they push northeast through the evening, especially along I-77 and US-30 corridors.
Residents in Medina, Wayne, Holmes, and Jefferson counties should stay weather-aware and secure outdoor items. High winds could impact travel on local roads, particularly in rural areas with limited visibility. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and avoid flooded intersections or debris.
The watch also includes Portage, Columbiana, Guernsey, and Monroe counties, where radar has indicated pockets of heavy rain and lightning activity. Flash flooding is not widespread but remains a risk in low-lying spots.
Conditions are expected to calm after 9 p.m., but additional watches or warnings may be issued if storms linger. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.
