Cincinnati, Ohio – A heat index of 100°F and an active Air Quality Advisory are combining to make Sunday a challenging day across southwest Ohio.

According to the Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency, ground-level ozone levels will reach unhealthy levels through midnight Sunday. The advisory covers Hamilton, Butler, Warren, and Clermont counties, along with Boone and Campbell counties in Kentucky. Residents in the Cincinnati metro — especially along the I-75 corridor — are urged to avoid unnecessary driving, refuel vehicles after 8 p.m., and limit lawn care involving gas-powered tools.

Meanwhile, actual air temperatures will soar to 96°F Sunday afternoon with calm winds offering little relief. The National Weather Service warns that this oppressive heat continues into Monday, when thunderstorms are expected to begin developing after 2 p.m. Chance of rain increases to 60% by late Monday, bringing potential lightning and localized flooding.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, highs will remain near 90°F with daily chances for afternoon storms. Outdoor workers and those without air conditioning should prepare for several days of muggy, storm-prone conditions.

Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak hours, and monitor local air quality conditions at southwestohioair.org/local_air_quality.

⚠️ Air Quality Alerts may be reissued if ozone levels persist.
