Ohio River Valley, OH, IN, KY, and IL – Rivers across parts of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois are at or approaching action stage or minor flood levels as rainstorms move through the region this week. As showers and thunderstorms hit south of the Ohio River, local rivers are expected to experience rising waters, posing risks to low-lying areas and infrastructure.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), an additional 0.2 to 0.5 inches of rainfall is expected across these states today and tomorrow. Areas south of the Ohio River could see higher totals, especially if thunderstorms bring heavier downpours. The NWS also noted that rivers in affected areas are either at or are forecast to reach action stage or minor flood level in the coming days.

Communities along the Ohio River in particular are facing elevated river levels. Areas near major rivers in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana may experience some localized flooding, with roads, bridges, and properties near riverbanks being particularly vulnerable. The NWS has advised residents to monitor river conditions closely, avoid flooded areas, and stay up to date on river stages and advisories.

The threat of flooding is expected to persist into Friday, May 9. Additional updates and warnings may be issued as more rainfall arrives. Residents should remain alert to potential changes in river conditions and plan accordingly.
