Pittsburgh, Pa. – Drivers and residents across western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio could face damaging wind gusts and large hail through 8 p.m. Monday as a strong cold front pushes through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” of severe weather is in place for much of eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and the northern West Virginia panhandle. The most likely window for storms stretches from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT, with damaging winds as the primary threat. Large hail up to quarter size and isolated tornadoes are also possible.
Cities including Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Butler, and New Philadelphia are under the greatest threat. Strong winds could impact travel on I-70, I-79, and I-76. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, stay weather-aware, and enable wireless alerts in case warnings are issued.
Though confidence in widespread severe storms is low, conditions are favorable for isolated strong cells to develop as the front moves through. Today’s risk marks one of the first organized severe weather setups of the season for the Ohio Valley.
Storm warnings may be issued quickly this afternoon—residents should monitor updates as conditions evolve.
