Greenfield, Ohio – Thunderstorms have dropped more than 3 inches of rain overnight in parts of central and south-central Ohio, triggering flash flooding across roads and low-lying areas in Ross, Highland, and Fayette counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 5:15 a.m. Friday for south-central Fayette County, northeastern Highland County, and northwestern Ross County. Radar indicated between 1.5 and 3.5 inches of rain had fallen by 3:15 a.m., with another inch possible before sunrise.

Communities including Greenfield, Leesburg, Frankfort, and South Salem are among the hardest hit. Rural roads, underpasses, and drainage culverts have become hazardous. U.S. Route 62 and Ohio State Route 138 may see temporary closures or water over pavement. Emergency officials warn drivers to avoid flooded areas, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid travel if possible, and steer clear of streams and riverbanks, which may be unstable. Use extreme caution in darkness, when water hazards are harder to spot.

The warning is active until at least 5:15 a.m., with further alerts possible if rainfall continues or flooding expands.
