Columbus, OH – Strong winds and low humidity in Ohio are creating an elevated fire danger across much of central and southern parts of the state today. The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement, warning that southerly winds gusting up to 30 MPH and humidity levels falling into the 20s will increase the potential for grass fires.
The alert covers a wide area including cities such as Columbus, Delaware, Springfield, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth. The dry conditions and gusty winds are expected to persist into the evening, heightening the risk of wildfires that could spread quickly.
Authorities are urging caution, advising residents to be mindful of fire hazards throughout the afternoon and evening. The combination of the weather and strong winds could cause loose objects to become airborne, creating additional hazards for drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service, it’s important to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as burning debris or using open flames. The public is encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious fires immediately to local authorities.
