Ohio Earthquake Rattles East Coast, Felt Across West Virginia and Kentucky

Chesapeake, OH – A magnitude 3.3 earthquake shook parts of Ohio late Monday and was felt across West Virginia and Kentucky.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 4:39 p.m. local time, centered 3 kilometers northwest of Chesapeake, Ohio. The depth measured approximately 23 kilometers below the surface.

Residents reported light to moderate shaking, with some feeling tremors as far as Charleston, WV, and Eastern Kentucky. No significant damage or injuries have been reported so far.

The event generated over 1,000 citizen responses to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” tool, reflecting regional awareness of the quake. While earthquakes of this magnitude are relatively uncommon in the area, they are not unheard of.

Officials encourage residents to stay prepared for any seismic activity, including having emergency plans in place.
