Cleveland, OH – Lake-effect snow is causing dangerous travel conditions along I-90 and surrounding areas in northeastern Ohio. A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Lake, Ashtabula Inland, and Ashtabula Lakeshore counties until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service forecasts additional snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches, with isolated totals reaching 6 inches in areas hit hardest by persistent snow bands. Visibility may drop below ¼ mile at times, creating whiteout conditions that make travel treacherous.
Motorists are strongly advised to delay non-essential travel until conditions improve. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads will likely become slick and hazardous. For those who must travel, officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including food, water, blankets, and a flashlight.
While conditions may improve later Tuesday, another potent cold front is expected to move into the area Wednesday night, bringing gusty winds and additional lake-effect snow. The midweek storm could result in further hazardous travel conditions into Thursday.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather updates and prepare for significant disruptions throughout the week. Stay informed and take precautions to ensure safety on the roads.
Plan ahead for delays and avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak snowfall. With winter weather expected to persist, maintaining readiness and exercising caution could prevent accidents and ensure a safer commute.
