Cleveland, OH – Lake-effect snow continues to blanket Northeast Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania, with snowfall expected through Thursday. Certain areas may receive up to eight inches of additional accumulation, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Erie and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania are under a Lake Effect Snow Warning until Thursday afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Ashtabula County, Ohio. Snow showers are expected to spread across northern Ohio Wednesday evening, potentially disrupting morning commutes.

Most northern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania areas will see 1-2 inches of snow per hour in some locations. Winds may reduce visibility, and untreated roads will likely become slippery. Commuters should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.

The advisory warns residents to prepare for possible delays and stay informed about weather updates. Officials suggest keeping emergency kits in vehicles, including blankets, flashlights, and water, for safe travel.

This prolonged snow event results from cold air crossing the warmer Great Lakes, triggering persistent lake-effect snow bands. Northern communities should anticipate fluctuating snowfall rates as the system continues moving eastward.

The NWS urges residents to monitor weather.gov/cle for the latest updates and advisories. Travel will remain challenging in impacted areas until conditions improve later Thursday.

Be sure to plan accordingly and stay safe throughout the winter storm.
