Pittsburgh, PA – Strong to severe storms are expected to impact eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania Sunday evening, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and a brief tornado risk through the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, an enhanced risk for severe weather (Level 3 of 5) has been issued for eastern Ohio, including Columbus and Zanesville, while a slight risk (Level 2) covers most of western Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh, New Philadelphia, and Wheeling. Storms are expected to develop over Ohio by late evening, crossing into western Pennsylvania around midnight and continuing into early Monday morning.

Forecasters say the main concerns are strong straight-line winds and the potential for isolated tornadoes. Large hail is also possible. The storms are expected to weaken slightly as they move east, due to reduced instability overnight, but strong wind shear could help sustain more intense cells.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts and ensure weather warnings can be received, especially during overnight hours. A Watch indicates conditions are favorable for severe weather, while a Warning means severe weather is occurring or imminent.

Prepare for possible power outages, secure outdoor objects, and review shelter plans in case a warning is issued.
