Pittsburgh, PA – Severe storms are expected to sweep through eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania late Sunday, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes through the overnight hours into early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of eastern Ohio and parts of western Pennsylvania under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe weather beginning Sunday evening, March 30, and continuing overnight into March 31. Areas farther east, including Pittsburgh, Butler, and Morgantown, fall under a Level 1 “Marginal Risk.”

Forecasters say the most likely hazard is damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, though the setup may also support the development of isolated tornadoes and pockets of large hail. While confidence is highest in eastern Ohio—specifically cities like Columbus, Zanesville, and New Philadelphia—conditions may still impact western Pennsylvania communities into the night.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, ensure weather radios are active, and enable emergency notifications on mobile devices. Severe storms may arrive after dark, increasing the risk of unnoticed warnings.

Drivers should remain alert for hazardous conditions, especially near the I-70 and I-77 corridors. If a warning is issued, seek shelter in a sturdy building away from windows immediately.
