Ohio Valley Region -Residents across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia should prepare for slippery roads and snowy conditions Thursday as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 4 a.m. Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh forecasts total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with localized higher amounts in some areas.
According to the NWS, snow began early Thursday and will persist throughout the day and evening. Morning and evening commutes are likely to be impacted by slippery roads and reduced visibility. The advisory affects portions of east-central Ohio, northwest and western Pennsylvania, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Cities such as Pittsburgh, Morgantown, and New Philadelphia are among those expected to see accumulations.
Temperatures are forecast to hover in the low 30s, allowing snow to accumulate on untreated surfaces. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. Roadways may become slick as the snow continues to fall, especially during peak commute hours.
Residents are urged to report snowfall totals and hazardous conditions to the NWS via social media or by calling 412-262-1988. Emergency responders advise keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, food, and water.
The advisory expires at 4 a.m. Friday, but lingering snow and icy conditions could persist into the early morning hours. Commuters should check local road conditions and weather updates before traveling.
