Raleigh, NC – Two tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday. Tornadoes hit Sampson and Nash counties, bringing significant damage and injuries.
According to the NWS, the first tornado, an EF-1, touched down in Sampson County at 11:26 a.m. It had peak winds of 95 mph and carved a 3.31-mile path. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported.
A second, more severe tornado hit Nash County at 1:30 p.m. Classified as an EF-3, this tornado had winds reaching 140 mph. It traveled a short distance of 0.25 miles, but caused several injuries. No fatalities were reported.
