Rock Island, IL – Light snowfall is anticipated across northwestern Illinois today and tonight, with totals reaching up to 2 inches in some areas. Untreated roads, including sections of Interstate 80, may become snow-covered and slippery, creating hazardous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will likely peak this afternoon and continue through the evening hours. Areas along and east of the Mississippi River face the highest accumulation risk. Commuters are advised to allow extra time for travel and use caution when navigating entrance and exit ramps, where visibility and traction may be reduced.

The snowfall is expected to taper off by Thursday morning, leaving behind minimal accumulations under 1.5 inches for most of the region. However, northwest Illinois remains under alert for isolated higher totals. Wind chill values are also forecast to drop below zero, adding an additional layer of cold stress to the mix.

Looking ahead, Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high of 19°F, though wind chills could make it feel as cold as -5°F. Thursday night temperatures are expected to plummet to 3°F, followed by a gradual warm-up to 38°F on Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to clear snow from sidewalks and driveways promptly to prevent ice buildup. Motorists should maintain slower speeds, avoid sudden braking, and carry an emergency kit when traveling.

Stay updated by monitoring local forecasts and prepare for slippery conditions, especially on untreated roadways.
