Grand Forks, ND – Residents in Grand Forks and northwest Minnesota are bracing for a mix of snow and frigid temperatures this week. Starting early Wednesday, a dusting of snow is expected to create slippery roads, particularly for the morning commute. Drivers should exercise caution, especially south of the Cando-Grand Forks-Moorhead line, where conditions may worsen.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will push wind chills as low as -10°F starting Thursday, with highs barely reaching 20°F through the weekend. Snow is likely to taper off by mid-Wednesday, but sub-zero temperatures will make outdoor activities hazardous, especially as winds reach 20 mph.

Thanksgiving Day offers a slight reprieve, with temperatures nearing 16°F, though gusty winds could produce dangerous chills. Travelers along U.S. Highway 2 and other major routes are advised to check for updates before venturing out.

Looking further ahead, conditions will remain harsh through Saturday. Friday will see highs near 10°F, and wind chills are forecast to plunge to -11°F. Road crews are preparing to keep key arteries like I-29 clear, but icy patches are expected in shaded areas.

Residents are urged to dress in layers and limit outdoor exposure. Those traveling for Thanksgiving should monitor forecasts and adjust plans to avoid hazardous driving conditions.
