Shreveport, Louisiana – Strong thunderstorms packing high winds and possible tornadoes could sweep across east Texas and northwest Louisiana Tuesday afternoon, posing threats to travel and utilities from Lufkin to Shreveport.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” for severe weather is in effect for much of the region. The greatest threat window stretches from early Tuesday afternoon through the evening. Storms could bring damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-size hail or larger, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.

Cities including Tyler, Nacogdoches, Ruston, and Natchitoches are all in the risk zone. Drivers should remain alert for sudden downpours and wind-blown debris. Power outages are likely where strong wind gusts hit, especially in rural areas with above-ground lines.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings. Those living in mobile homes or flood-prone areas should have a shelter plan in place.

The threat will taper off late Tuesday night, but further alerts or warnings may be issued if storm activity increases.
