Chicago, IL – Shoppers planning to hit stores along the I-80 corridor for Black Friday deals should brace for bitter cold. A drop in temperatures will bring wind chills in the low teens and scattered lake effect flurries to the area. Breezy conditions will make outdoor activities uncomfortable, especially in open areas like parking lots or busy shopping centers.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high will reach just 28°F, with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Overnight, temperatures will dip into the low teens, with wind chills near zero. Those driving on I-80 or I-94 should use caution as light snow showers could create slick spots, especially in northwest Indiana.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Midwest will see a mix of sunshine and continued cold. Saturday’s high in Chicago is expected to hover around 25°F, with overnight lows dropping to 18°F. Sunday will bring some relief with highs reaching 30°F but will still feel brisk due to continued wind gusts.

Travelers should dress in layers, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check for updated forecasts before hitting the road. Wind chills in the teens could pose risks of frostbite during extended outdoor periods. Drivers are urged to pack emergency kits, including blankets, water, and flashlights, for holiday travel.

By Monday, temperatures will begin to moderate, with highs near 32°F. However, forecasters warn that another cold front could arrive midweek, keeping the Midwest in its icy grip. Stay tuned for updates as the region navigates its first extended winter chill of the season.
