Richmond, VA – A cold front sweeping through Virginia today has brought temperatures plunging into the 30s and gusty winds across the region. Wind chills could dip to near zero overnight, and there is a slight chance of snow flurries, particularly along the Eastern Shore. Drivers and pedestrians should prepare for freezing conditions, especially during the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high temperatures will struggle to reach 40°F in most areas. Norfolk and Franklin could see highs of 41°F, while locations like Richmond and Louisa may only reach 39°F. Breezy northwest winds, reaching gusts up to 22 mph, will make it feel significantly colder. Overnight lows are expected to fall to the upper teens to low 20s, with freezing wind chills likely.

The week ahead remains cold but mostly dry. Sunny skies are expected on Wednesday, with highs near 31°F, and light winds will keep the wind chill in the teens. Thursday will see slightly milder conditions with a high of 34°F under partly cloudy skies.

By Friday, temperatures will rise into the mid-40s, and rain is likely to move in by Saturday. Early forecasts suggest a mix of rain and snow through Sunday, though accumulation is expected to be minimal.

Residents are urged to dress in layers and limit outdoor exposure during the coldest hours. Keep pets indoors and check on neighbors who may need assistance during this stretch of frigid weather.
