Wellsboro, Pennsylvania – Roads across northern Pennsylvania could turn slick by 8 a.m. Tuesday as freezing rain develops, creating hazardous travel into the afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday for Potter, Tioga, Northern Lycoming and Sullivan counties. Forecasters expect up to one tenth of an inch of ice and less than 1 inch of snow, with the greatest icing risk in higher elevations.

A light glaze may form on untreated bridges and overpasses along Route 6, Route 15 and portions of U.S. 220. Communities including Wellsboro, Mansfield, Coudersport, Trout Run and Laporte could see slippery secondary roads as temperatures hover near freezing through late morning.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 for updated road conditions before heading out. Conditions are expected to improve late afternoon as temperatures edge above freezing and precipitation transitions to plain rain. Additional advisories may be issued if icing becomes more widespread Tuesday.
