Cleveland, OH – Northern Ohio is experiencing an unusual October heatwave today, with temperatures forecasted to reach record-breaking highs. Cleveland, Akron, and Toledo could see temperatures near or above 80°F, challenging historical records across the region. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities during peak afternoon heat.
According to the National Weather Service, Cleveland is expected to hit 80°F, surpassing the previous record of 79°F set in 1950. Akron-Canton is projected to reach 79°F, exceeding its 77°F record from 1900. Toledo might even reach 82°F, well above its 1971 record of 77°F. These unusually high temperatures are expected to cool by Thursday evening as rain and breezy conditions move into the area.
The midweek warmth will give way to showers starting late Thursday, with an 80% chance of rain and gusts up to 21 mph overnight. Friday will be partly sunny and cooler, with highs in the mid-50s. Residents should prepare for a drop in temperatures into the weekend, as Saturday will remain mostly sunny but with a high only reaching 58°F.
By Sunday, there’s a 40% chance of showers after 8 a.m., with temperatures stabilizing in the low 60s. The extended forecast predicts continued rain on Sunday night and into Monday, which may impact early-week travel. Commuters are encouraged to check weather updates and plan for potentially wet and breezy conditions during their morning drives.
Northern Ohio residents should take advantage of today’s warmth but prepare for more seasonally cool, wet weather as the weekend approaches. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for the latest weather alerts and updates on changing conditions.
