Cleveland, Ohio – A break in the heat won’t last long in northeast Ohio as thunderstorms threaten Cleveland by late Friday, prompting a weather alert for much of Cuyahoga County.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will stay dry and mostly sunny, with highs reaching near 80°F. But by Friday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in, with rain chances jumping to 50% after 2 p.m. The storms may bring brief downpours and gusty winds, especially along I-90 and across central Lake County.

Friday night remains stormy, with another round of showers possible and up to half an inch of rain expected in some areas. Motorists should avoid flooded intersections and plan for delays. Northeast winds could also complicate lakefront conditions. Cleveland EMS and the Ohio Department of Transportation advise keeping phones charged and limiting unnecessary travel during peak rain hours Friday evening.

Saturday brings a stronger round of rain, with an 80% chance of storms and temperatures dipping to the mid-70s. Expect potential lightning and brief urban flooding. Showers may linger into early Sunday before tapering off by late morning.

Residents should prepare now for power interruptions and soggy weekend plans. Updates are likely Friday morning as the system approaches.
