Burlington, VT – Rain is moving across the region tonight and could make for a slick Tuesday morning commute in much of Vermont and northern New York, with up to 0.6 inches of rain expected in many areas and isolated spots approaching an inch.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, precipitation will overspread from west to east beginning Monday evening and continuing through early Tuesday. Rain chances climb to 90% in cities like Burlington, Montpelier, and Springfield between midnight and 9 a.m., with totals reaching 0.49 inches in Burlington, 0.45 in Middlebury, and 0.43 in Rutland by 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers should plan for wet roads and reduced visibility during the morning commute, especially along I-89 and Route 7. While flooding is not expected, brief ponding in low-lying areas and around storm drains is possible. Parts of northern New York—including Watertown, Potsdam, and Malone—may see closer to 0.6 to 1 inch, especially where rain bands persist.

Rain tapers off by midday Tuesday for most of Vermont. No additional watches or warnings are in effect, but residents should stay tuned in case rainfall rates increase overnight.
