Duluth, Minn. – Drivers in northeastern Minnesota may face low visibility Wednesday morning as patchy fog lingers across the region, with conditions expected to improve by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, stronger concerns arrive Thursday evening into Friday when severe thunderstorms could develop across northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning are possible, raising risks for power outages and hazardous travel on highways including I-35 near Duluth and U.S. Highway 53 through the Iron Range.

Communities from Grand Rapids to the North Shore and across Douglas and Bayfield counties in Wisconsin should prepare for rapidly changing conditions Thursday night. Outdoor plans, including boating on Lake Superior, could be disrupted by storms and shifting winds. The weather service advises residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and be prepared for potential delays on the roads.

While spotter activation will not be needed Wednesday, officials say additional alerts or watches may be issued later this week as the storm system approaches. Conditions are expected to stabilize by Saturday with breezy, sunny skies returning to the region.
