Duluth, Minnesota – Clearing skies will bring a brief break in the rain tonight across northern Minnesota, but showers and thunderstorms are expected to return by Friday, with a stronger chance of widespread rain late Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, scattered storms will end by this evening, followed by isolated activity Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s and low 70s across the region, with overnight lows in the 40s to low 50s.
By Friday, numerous showers and embedded thunderstorms are likely to move into areas including Hibbing, Grand Rapids, and the North Shore. Saturday brings the highest potential for heavier rainfall, especially late in the day and into the night. Localized flooding isn’t expected at this time, but wet roads and reduced visibility could impact weekend travel along US-53 and MN-61.
Residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy and avoid outdoor plans Saturday night if possible. Power outages aren’t anticipated, but isolated lightning and brief downpours may accompany storms.
Rain chances continue through the weekend, with clearer skies possible early next week.
