Duluth, Minnesota – Rain and possible thunderstorms will push into northern Minnesota late Monday and continue through Tuesday, bringing up to an inch of rainfall and a chance for localized flash flooding in areas like Ashland, Duluth, and Hinckley.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, there’s a 25% to 75% chance of seeing at least half an inch of rain across the region, with higher totals—over 1 inch—likely along the South Shore of Lake Superior. Cities such as Hurley (1.13″), Phillips (1.21″), and Ashland (0.90″) are among those projected to receive the heaviest rainfall.

Light showers could begin Monday afternoon in areas like Grand Rapids and Walker, picking up overnight into Tuesday. Roads may become slick with ponding possible in low-lying areas, especially in spots like Port Wing and Solon Springs. Commuters should use caution during early Tuesday travel, and residents are advised to clear storm drains and avoid driving through standing water.

This marks one of the more widespread rain events for the region in recent weeks. While severe weather is not expected, embedded thunderstorms could amplify totals locally.

Showers taper off Tuesday night, but another round of unsettled weather could develop later in the week.
