Gaylord, Mich. – Thunderstorms could spark travel issues along and south of M-72 Tuesday afternoon as scattered storms move through Northern Lower Michigan, with stronger cells possible near Saginaw Bay.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a hazardous weather outlook remains in effect for Eastern Upper Michigan and parts of Northern Lower Michigan. The most immediate threat includes isolated strong storms developing today, particularly near areas such as Alpena, Gaylord, and Roscommon.

Communities along M-72—including Grayling and Kalkaska—may see frequent lightning and brief downpours. A stronger storm or two may impact areas near Saginaw Bay by late afternoon. While the threat of severe weather is limited today, the risk of additional storms continues into the weekend.

Thunderstorms are likely to return Thursday night into Friday, with potential for localized heavy rainfall. Winds may gust up to 20 mph during storm periods, with limited visibility possible on rural roads.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid outdoor activities during periods of lightning. While spotter activation is not anticipated, flooding could become an issue later this week.

More storms are possible through Monday, with updates expected as new advisories are issued.
