Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of northern Michigan, with additional snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow accumulations will range from 1 to 5 inches across affected counties, with the heaviest totals expected in Western Mackinac, Kalkaska, Charlevoix, and Otsego counties. Winds will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and making roads slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.

The advisory, which lasts until 7 a.m. Tuesday, covers Emmet, Cheboygan, Grand Traverse, and other northern counties. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, as conditions will likely worsen during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Lake effect snow bands may cause rapidly changing conditions, with heavy snowfall in some areas while others remain relatively dry. The NWS advises travelers to remain cautious and stay updated on local forecasts.

Residents should prepare for challenging driving conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel. Authorities remind motorists to keep extra supplies in their vehicles and use caution when on the roads.
