Gaylord, Mich. – Light rain will sweep across northern Lower Michigan tonight, bringing slick roads and damp conditions through Friday before drier, sunnier weather returns for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered showers will mainly impact areas north of M-72, with overnight lows between 48 and 55 degrees. Breezy winds and lingering drizzle are expected Friday, especially in cities like Petoskey, Traverse City, and Alpena, where daytime highs could still climb into the low 70s.

Travelers should watch for wet pavement during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes, especially along US-131 and I-75. By Saturday, conditions improve with mostly sunny skies and milder temps in the mid-60s to low 70s. Wind gusts may remain around 20 mph in exposed areas.

Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas handy through Friday and avoid driving through any ponded areas on rural roads. Sunshine and warming temperatures will dominate the weekend, offering a welcome break after a damp stretch.

Rain chances taper off by Friday night, with no further precipitation expected through at least Sunday.
