Gaylord, MI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday for areas across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula, where lake effect snow could pile up to 2 feet in some locations. Communities near Sault Ste. Marie are forecast to see the heaviest snowfall, with locally higher amounts possible.
The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the storm will create dangerous travel conditions throughout the holiday weekend. Whiteout conditions, blowing snow, and icy roads will make travel nearly impossible at times, especially along exposed roadways near Lake Superior.
Residents should delay any non-essential travel and prepare for power outages as snow accumulates on power lines and trees. The warning covers Chippewa, Otsego, Antrim, Kalkaska, and other counties expected to see significant snowfall.
