Grand Rapids, MI – A potent lake-effect snowstorm dumped significant snowfall across Michigan, with some areas seeing over 4 feet.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals from November 28 to December 5 reached 57.2 inches in Gaylord, 54 inches in Munising, and over 50 inches in Elmira. The snow, fueled by cold air passing over the warm Great Lakes, created substantial snowpack in northern Michigan.

Southwest Michigan saw slightly lower totals, with many areas reporting up to 2 feet of snow. Near Grand Rapids, lighter snowfall of less than 6 inches was common. Officials noted much of the snow melted within days in southern regions, reducing accumulation impact.

Communities across northern Michigan are clearing roads and sidewalks as temperatures remain cold. Residents are advised to drive cautiously due to icy conditions, especially near high-accumulation zones.

Meteorologists warn that lake-effect snow could persist, bringing additional localized snowfalls in the coming days. Stay updated on forecasts to plan safe travel.
