Gaylord, MI – A significant lake-effect snowstorm is set to impact northern Michigan through the weekend, bringing heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions. The storm begins Thursday night and intensifies on Black Friday, with snow accumulations of 8-12 inches expected by Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall rates may reach 1-3 inches per hour under the heaviest snow bands, particularly in areas along the I-75 corridor near Gaylord. Gusty winds of up to 25 mph will create blowing snow, reducing visibility and making driving treacherous. Additional snowfall of 6-10 inches is possible through Saturday evening, with localized higher totals in persistent snow bands.

Travelers are advised to delay non-essential trips and carry emergency kits if travel is unavoidable. Roadways are expected to be slick, with rapidly changing conditions throughout the storm.

The snowstorm will continue to affect the region through Sunday, with scattered snow showers and additional accumulation. Residents should also prepare for possible power outages due to heavy, wet snow and gusty winds.

Stay updated with local weather forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel to ensure safety during this prolonged winter storm.
