Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents should prepare for frigid temperatures and lingering snow showers along US-2 in the eastern Upper Peninsula over the next two days. Overnight lows are expected to plunge below zero in many areas, creating hazardous travel conditions in some spots.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord, lake-effect snow will diminish by late Wednesday. However, partly cloudy skies and calm winds tonight will allow temperatures to dip to as low as -1°F in the lower peninsula and near 5°F in the eastern upper peninsula. Areas near US-2 could see isolated snow showers.

Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs reaching 23°F in lower Michigan and up to 28°F in the eastern upper peninsula. Light snow showers may return Thursday night along US-2, with new accumulation under an inch.

By Friday, snow showers will intensify, particularly overnight, with up to an inch of snow expected. Temperatures will remain chilly throughout the weekend, with highs around 24°F on Saturday and chances for more snow.

Travelers along US-2 and surrounding areas should remain cautious, as cold weather and intermittent snow could lead to slick roadways. Residents are advised to bundle up, monitor local forecasts, and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.
