Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures as a cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 25 degrees below zero, with locally colder conditions in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the advisory covers Central Piscataquis, Northern Penobscot, Southeast Aroostook, and all of Aroostook County, among other regions. Cities affected include Caribou, Presque Isle, Millinocket, and Fort Kent.

Officials warn that frostbite can occur in minutes on exposed skin, and hypothermia is a significant risk with prolonged exposure. Residents are urged to bundle up with insulated clothing, hats, and gloves when outdoors.

Pets should be kept indoors, and travelers are advised to take precautions in case of emergencies. Carrying blankets, extra clothing, and supplies in vehicles is highly recommended during these extreme conditions.
