Caribou, Maine – A rare stretch of summer heat is headed for Aroostook County as scattered thunderstorms threaten Saturday afternoon, then give way to sweltering conditions by Monday. Daytime highs will climb from the mid-80s to over 92°F, bringing the hottest weather of the summer so far and raising concerns for heat-sensitive residents.
According to the National Weather Service, Caribou will see a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Saturday, especially for drivers on Route 1 and outdoor events across the region. Storm chances return Saturday evening, with localized downpours and gusty winds possible, but most of Sunday looks dry and warm. Temperatures begin to spike Sunday, with a high near 87°F, and surge even higher on Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will stay unusually mild, making it harder for homes without air conditioning to cool down.
Outdoor activities are best planned for early in the day before heat peaks. Residents should hydrate, check on elderly neighbors, and avoid strenuous activity Monday and Tuesday. With air conditioners working overtime, local utilities urge limiting power use during afternoon hours.
Thunderstorm chances increase again by midweek. Stay tuned for updated advisories if conditions shift.
