Caribou, Maine – Hazy skies are clouding much of northern and eastern Maine on Sunday as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts into the region, prompting an Air Quality Alert through 11 p.m. tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the alert—issued by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection—covers areas from Dover-Foxcroft to Lincoln and north to Topshfield. Residents in these regions are urged to limit outdoor activities, especially those with respiratory conditions, as smoke lingers across the state. High pressure is keeping conditions dry but hazy through tonight.

Patchy fog may develop late Sunday night into Monday morning, though the dry spell is expected to continue into the start of the workweek. Visibility could be reduced in some valley locations early Monday.

Rain chances return late Tuesday and continue into Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief from the smoke and dry conditions. The most widespread showers are expected Tuesday night, with localized downpours possible.

Air quality and weather updates are expected throughout the week as conditions evolve.
