Caribou, ME – Rain and snow showers are set to blanket northern Maine tonight, accompanied by strong winds and dropping temperatures. Travelers should brace for potentially slick roads and reduced visibility, especially along Route 1 and local highways.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain will develop this evening, transitioning to snow after midnight in areas north of Baxter State Park. Accumulations of 1-2 inches are likely in higher elevations, with less than an inch expected near Caribou. Winds will blow from the northwest at 15-25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph, which could cause isolated power outages in exposed areas. Overnight lows will drop to the low 30s, adding a layer of chill to the gusty weather.

Sunday will bring continued scattered rain and snow showers, with temperatures struggling to climb past the upper 30s in northern towns. Strong winds will persist throughout the day, gusting to 30 mph at times. While snow accumulation will taper off by midday, roads could remain icy, especially in shaded or elevated areas.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and use caution while driving tonight and Sunday morning. Those planning to travel should monitor weather updates and allow extra time for their trips.
